Sainsbury has joined forces with poultry farmers to launch a new breed of chicken.
Devonshire is a 100% Westcountry free range chicken the retailer claims “tastes like chicken used to taste”.
Lloyd Maunder and selected farmers worked with Sainsbury to breed a New Hampshire chicken with a Cornish bird.
Michele Taylor, chicken buyer, said: “We have been working to develop this new breed for over two years and are delighted with the taste and texture.”
The eight-strong range will be available both on the meat counter and pre-packed. Prices range from £13.49/kg for fillet through to £3.74/kg for whole birds.
