A new source of farmed fish is coming on stream next month in the New Forest.
Aquabella has constructed Europe’s largest indoor barramundi farm at Lymington, and a hatchery will be built this year. The farm will have an output of 400 tonnes of New Forest Barramundi in its first year, and is aiming to supply Waitrose, as well as restaurants and fishmongers in the New Forest and London.
The fingerlings are from Australia and the technology is Norwegian, but the operation has the New Forest Marque in recognition of its contribution to the local economy. An organic standard will be developed.
