A new app is enabling restaurant-goers to donate to homeless charities free of charge.
The Dealer app, which launched this week in Manchester, Liverpool, Swansea and Cambridge, offers diners as much as 50% off their bill in local restaurants and bars.
The app will generate a pin number and barcode that users can give to restaurants for a discount on their bill.
But in a twist on traditional discount apps, The Dealer also gives customers the choice to pass on these savings to a homeless charity in their area.
Partner charities include Mustard Tree in Manchester, The Whitechapel Centre in Liverpool, Shelter Cymru in Swansea, and Jimmy’s and Wintercomfort in Cambridge.
The Dealer said more than 250 “popular and award-winning restaurants” had joined the app already.
The app’s director Edward Alun-Jones said tackling homelessness was “at the centre of everything we do”.
“By giving people the opportunity to give back after they have saved, we hope to raise additional funds for charities and services that are stretched by government cuts,” he said. “As well as money, we also contribute the time of our employees to homeless charities every week.”
Alun Jones added that the “irresistible discounts” could help fill empty seats at restaurants. “In return we ask for a small donation and for users to return some of their savings back to charities fighting homelessness in the local community. Giving back is optional but the discounts are available every day. We ask people to give only when they feel they can.”
The Dealer app is available to download on iOS and Android.
