The Home Office has urged retailers to take part in a new survey that aims to form a clearer picture of crime against businesses.
The Commercial Victimisation Survey is part of the Retail Crime Action Plan, launched last summer.
"Better knowledge will help police set priorities and help us tackle under-reporting of crimes against retailers," said home office minister Alan Campbell.
"We urge small businesses to get in touch with their neighbourhood policing teams to ensure their needs are recognised."
