Eight sites in the Bells Stores convenience chain acquired by Sainsbury have been re-branded with new fascias.
The stores have all been renamed Sainsbury’s at Bells Stores. The latest to be transformed, in Middlesbrough, was completed last week. Other stores in the chain will now be converted gradually.
All 54 Bells shops, located in the north east of England, were acquired by Sainsbury in February last year. Typically around 2,000 sq ft and predominantly in neighbourhood locations, the Bells Stores outlets still operate as a separate business and are run by the previous management under chief executive Steven Bell. The head office and distribution centre has also been retained.
A spokeswoman for Sainsbury said it had built on Bells Stores’ operational skills, advanced use of information technology and in-house distribution systems, while adding Sainsbury’s expertise in fresh and convenience foods.
