Clementine fans will be offered a new early variety this Christmas - the Rishon.
Israeli grower and importer Mehadrin Tnuport Export (MTEX) has begun marketing the fruit. MD Dov Warmen said: “Our new early clementine is unique by flavour and appearance.”
Rishon is a hybrid of two varieties, Temple and Michal.
The resulting hybrid is said to be sweet and juicy and easily peeled.Until last season, the Rishon was mainly grown for the local market.
This year for the first time MTEX is exporting 10,000 cartons for sale in Tesco from a total crop of 3,500 tonnes.
