Sundowner, a new red apple bred by Australian scientists, is being given a makeover to give it a high profile with consumers between now and October. Approximately 100,000 cartons of fruit grown Down Under and in South Africa will be marketed in the UK this year said Gordon Winterbottom, md of Corregeo, which is responsible for its licensing in a similar way to Pink Lady. Corregeo has designed a green and red prepack carrying the name as a brand to boost awareness with Safeway the first to retail the fruit at £2.09 per pack. Other multiples such as Waitrose, Sainsbury and M&S will also be stocking it. The apple will be officially launched at Edgbaston for the first Test Match against Australia on July 7. {{M/E FRESH PRODUCE }}
