Newcastle Bown Ale

The issue affects bottles stocked across the on- and off-trade

Heineken UK has voluntarily withdrawn some 550ml bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale after discovering a possible food safety risk.

The supplier said – following three recent customer complaints – it had discovered “a small number of instances” of Newcastle Brown Ale bottles fracturing when opened.

It was possible fragments of glass could come away from the bottle, posing “a risk of harm” to shoppers, Heineken UK said.

After confirming the defect with its glass manufacturer, Heineken said it had recalled bottles of Newcastle Brown produced between 16 and 21 November 2024 as a precaution.

The bottles have a best before date of 30 November 2025, and the following batch codes are affected: L4321, L4322, L4323, L4324, L4325.

Consumers in possession of affected bottles should not consume them and instead return the unopened bottles to their original point of purchase to receive a refund (with or without a receipt), Heineken said.

Newcastle Brown Recall

The affected batches are: L4321, L4322, L4323, L4324, L4325

Safety is our top priority, and on the basis that a small number of bottles are impacted by this potential safety issue, we are recalling this run of glass bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale as a precaution,” a spokeswoman for Heineken UK said. “We urge those consumers in possession of the product not to drink it, but to return the unopened bottles to where they purchased them for a refund.

“We ask any customers to immediately halt the sale of any stock they hold with these batch numbers. We are providing customers guidance on how to register and return affected stock and ask them to contact our customer care team with any additional queries.”

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and are working with the regulatory authorities after alerting them of the matter.”
