Budgens is set to unveil a new range of 60 £5-£10 wines next week. Senior wine buyer Christine Sandys has spent the past two years revamping the supermarket's wines and this is the latest stage of her strategy.
Until now Sandys has concentrated on sub-£5 wines which account for 80% of the chain's sales. She said volumes were up 15% last year against a market growing at 6.9% (ACNielsen).
The new mid-priced wines will be launched at Budgens, in Tadley, near Basingstoke, before rolling out to other stores.
