Construction has started on a major new distribution centre in the Port of Tilbury that will be leased by third-party logistics supplier NFT.
The 230,000 sq ft centre, due to be open for business by late 2015, will have capacity for 25,000 pallets and be able to handle in excess of 2.5 million cases per week.
The location in the South East will enable NFT to streamline retail and manufacturing customers’ supply chains and reduce food miles. Over 150 representatives from 75 companies in the importing, retail and manufacturing world attended the launch event this week.
“This event showcased the huge potential for importers, manufacturers and retailers,” said Dale Fiddy, NFT sales & marketing director. “By offering true seamless end-to-end logistics solutions, from factory of origin to port of entry, warehousing, and onward distribution to the UK, the financial and environmental opportunities are endless.”
