Nifties

Social enterprise supermarket Nifties has started a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for expansion.

The Kent-based supermarket, which collects damaged or short-dated food from wholesalers and manufacturers and sells them heavily discounted, wants to raise £3,500 on crowdfunder.co.uk. It plans to use the money to fund new stores and “feed 50,000 families” with food that would otherwise go to waste.

“We are dedicated to this ongoing project to help ensure everyone has enough food in their cupboard,” said Nifties founder Nathaniel Richards.

“To date we have saved 125 tonnes of food from going to waste, which is equal to roughly 175,000 meals. This is only the start and we aim to be in every town in Kent and South East London by 2020 to help communities which have had their backs turned on by governments for far too long.”

The crowdfunder project is offering rewards for cash pledges including the chance to win free shopping, invitations to a VIP tasting session and advertising space on the Nifties website.
