Nisa has hired Nigel Maxwell as regional retail manager for Northern Ireland.
His new role, which he started on 1 January, will see Maxwell head up the Nisa operation across the region, supporting both Nisa retailers and managing the symbol group’s Irish team.
He will bring more than 30 years’ experience in grocery retailing, largely in NI, as well as the Republic of Ireland and England. Twenty years of his career has been spent with independent retailers.
Most recently, Maxwell held the position of sales director for Supervalu and Centra in NI – two brands that form part of the Musgrave group.
“I’m excited to welcome Nigel to the team,” said Nisa head of retail Victoria Lockie. “He is a well-respected figure in the industry with a wealth of knowledge, particularly about the independent sector in Northern Ireland, and a track record of working with independent retailers and helping them to grow their sales and profits.
“Nigel is a valuable addition to the Nisa team and I’m very much looking forward to working with him as he supports our Irish partners and helps to drive forward their businesses.”
Maxwell said: “I’m really looking forward to working with the team at Nisa and our retail partners to continue to grow and develop the business. I can’t wait to get out to meet the retailers and build on the successful relationships that are the core of the Nisa business model.”
Maxwell will be taking over from Pat Leneghan, who left the business at the end of last summer following 11-and-a-half years.
The move comes as Nisa boss Ken Towle is set to leave the business after almost four years to become retail director at Asda. He will take on responsibility for all of Asda’s stores.
