Nisa has removed its fuel levy for retailers.

The charge has been removed from today (10 January) to help retailers manage high operating costs during a “challenging economic environment”, the symbol group said.

Since it was first introduced in January 2022 at £4.88 per delivery, it has fluctuated from as high as £13.43 to its lowest rate of £3.66, in line with a volatile fuel market.

“Retailers continue to be faced with increasing operating costs, and alongside the highly competitive convenience market, this is causing further erosion to their profit margins,” said Nisa retail and sales director Katie Secretan.

“It’s our absolute priority to drive more value for our partners, and the removal of this charge will allow our retailers to invest these vital funds into their businesses, so they can continue to serve their communities for years to come.”

To further support retailers, Nisa is continuing its Mega Deals pricing campaign into 2025, giving them access to weekly “market-leading” prices.

It was originally launched to help retailers capitalise in the run-up to Christmas, with more than 200 products featured in the campaign since October.

Secretan added: “Our goal is to ensure Nisa retailers remain well-stocked with the most popular and in demand products, at the best price on the market, to drive footfall and sales and ultimately increase their profitability.”

The moves come as Bestway announced earlier this week that it had also removed the fuel levy charge for mainland Costcutter stores, which are supplied by the Co-op via Nisa’s supply chain. Bestway has also invested over £2.5m to reduce the cost of 11,000 “bestselling” branded products to boost profits for retailers.
