Nisa retailer Amrit Singh is venturing into wholesale to give other retailers across the country access to exclusive products and NPD from the US.
Launching an online ordering platform this week, with a product listing also available to shoppers for home delivery, Singh said he was stocking up to 20 key lines that highlighted “the best NPD”, including MrBeast chocolate bars and cookies, Jolly Rancher hard candy, and Nitro Pepsi draft cola.
He is working directly with suppliers from the US who are importing stock to the warehouse which is attached to the back of his H & Jodies Nisa store in High Heath, Walsall. A team of pickers manages orders from there.
Singh is using a variety of logistic partners to carry out delivery across the country. The size of the order will determine the best shipment for delivery.
He is hoping to eventually invest in a larger warehouse to broaden his operations, but aims to find one close to the store for easy supervision.
“I’ve never really been interested in multi-site retailing. I prefer getting products no one else can get, and if you want to expand your business using that, the best method is moving into wholesale,” Singh told The Grocer.
“It allows us to increase our buying of NPD by tenfold, which benefits our customers but also puts other retailers on the map by giving them access to these hard-to-find products.”
Singh has already taken orders from 90 retailers but is keen to get “as many on board as possible”.
“Why we’re different to an ordinary wholesaler is that we’re only giving products to retailers we know work and sell well, after being in our own store,” he said.
“We’ve got the retail background to tell you that it works, with confidence.”
Other products on the H & Jodies website include: Cheetos Crunchy Flamin’ Hot Crunch, Pringles Buffalo Ranch and Pringles Honey Mustard, Van Holten’s Dill Pickle, Hot Pickle and Warheads Sour Pickle, and Prime Hydration Sticks in Lemon Lime and Tropical Punch flavours.
The idea for his wholesale operation stems from a breadth of experience in quickly stocking high-demand products, such as Tik Tok crazes Little Moons and fidget spinners, and more recently Prime energy drinks. Singh called it “a natural progression”.
