Nisa is set to drop its fuel levy back down to £3.66 per delivery for the first time in over a year.
Starting from 21 October, retailers will see the fee lowered by £1.09 in line with Nisa’s policy that reviews fuel prices every 13 weeks.
In a letter sent to retailers, seen by The Grocer, Nisa said: “We will continue to track the cost of fuel on a quarterly basis and make any necessary amendments.
“We will also carry on reviewing our delivery days and operations to ensure we achieve maximum efficiency for our network.”
The symbol group and wholesaler, which supplies over 4,000 stores, first introduced the fee in January 2022 as the business grappled with rising operating costs.
It has since fluctuated, from as high as £13.43 in July 2022 to its lowest rate of £3.66 in August last year, in line with a volatile fuel market.
In June, The Grocer revealed Nisa had temporarily paused the fuel levy for 40 retailers as it looked to assess the impact on the business.
It was understood the symbol group was looking at how it could boost loyalty and sales volume, while making its proposition more attractive to other retailers operating with different wholesalers.
Nisa said that the pilot was ongoing while it continued to assess the impact on the retailers currently taking part. The Grocer understands there is potential for the pilot to be extended to more stores.
