Egg brand Purely Organic has been certified as carbon neutral by the Carbon Trust.
Purely Organic said it had worked with the Carbon Trust to further strengthen its sustainability credentials and align with growing consumer demand for more environmentally friendly foods. New packs flagging the certification are to roll out at the end of this month.
“Like us, shoppers agree that sustainability is extremely important,” said Glenn Evans, Noble Foods’ group environmental manager. “Therefore, we believe it’s our responsibility to take a market-leading step forward in carbon reduction, to ensure a more sustainable future for customers and producers alike.”
The brand said it hoped this step would build on its reputation as a leader in the organic space and contribute to its ‘Good for you. Good for farms. Good for hens’ slogan.
The egg company owned by Noble Foods has seen sales up 21% on 2021 and it now holds an 18.1% share of the organic egg sector, up 3.4% on 2021, according to Purely Organic.
“Being organic already has many benefits for the environment – being free of pesticides and artificial fertilisers and the use of organic raw materials for poultry feed – and the addition of carbon neutrality to Purely Organic increases our appeal to our trade customers and consumers, while contributing to the wider environmental strategy for Noble Foods,” said Evans.
Purely Organic is undertaking research and development to understand how else the brand can further enhance its environmental credentials.
The eggs will be available in new revamped packs in sizes of six and 10. The brand is also undertaking promotional activities including in-store shopper marketing and digital media.
