The first non-dairy drink containing cholesterol-lowering Benecol was launched at Anuga by mineral water and fruit juice giant Rhön Sprudel.
The drink, a blend of orange and apple-flavoured mineral water and the plant extract stanol ester, was unveiled as an alternative to cholesterol-reducing dairy drinks.
Export manager Birgit Gleiss said: “We are the first to use Benecol in a fruit juice. It was a difficult process to make stanol stable within a non-dairy drink, but we are now expecting it to be a very successful product.”
The product is a result of a partnership between Rhön Sprudel and Benecol.
McNeil Consumer Nutritionals owns the Benecol licence in the United Kingdom.
