Abel & Cole is offering non-organic meat for the first time to meet demand for a more affordable option.
The box scheme operator has added non-organic chicken, pork, beef and lamb to its portfolio.
Prices in the new non-organic meat range are up to 30% cheaper than equivalent organic meat products on its price list.
The move represented the first time Abel & Cole had offered a non-organic food product where an organic one was available, confirmed a spokeswoman. It already sells some non-organic food, such as wild fish, where there is no organic alternative.
But the company stressed that it remained committed to supplying organic food.
"Organic farming remains our favoured method of food production as it results in the most sustainable, tastiest foods," the company said in a booklet to promote the new range.
