Yorkshire brewers Northern Monk and Timothy Taylor’s have teamed up to launch a 4.4% abv nitro stout.
Northern Rising will launch in cask, keg and small-pack this month, with 440ml cans of the brew hitting Morrisons stores from the end of October.
The beer – dubbed a “draught unity stout” – was the culmination of a year of work between the two breweries, Northern Monk said.
Made using roast barley and crystal malt, the beer had “a malt-forward and satisfying chocolate flavour”, the Leeds brewer added.
“We’ve been huge fans of Timothy Taylor’s for many years and a collaboration with them has always been on our bucket list,” said Northern Monk co-founder Russel Bisset. “We had fun getting together and developing different concepts on what we could do together and landed on a stout, an exciting challenge.
“Stouts are the fastest growing beer style in the UK, and we’re stoked for people to try our take on a classic,” Bisset added.
Northern Monk had “produced some of the most exciting craft beers in the country” for many years, said Timothy Taylor’s head brewer Andy Leman.
“It’s been fantastic to blend their craft beer credentials with our real ale expertise to produce Northern Rising, a truly delicious stout,” he added.
The launch comes after Northern Monk announced a fresh crowdfunding drive last month.
Funds from the raise, which has already surpassed its initial £1m target, will be used to open a flagship Northern Monk venue in London, upgrade the brewery’s original home in Leeds, drive a commitment to reach net zero, and grow its workforce.
