Tesco has opened the first in-store Nutri Centre in its flagship store in West Kensington, London.
In the joint venture, customers will be able to purchase more than 3,000 herbal and homeopathic remedies, aromatherapy oils, vitamins, minerals and supplements in the 1,000 sq ft store within a store. A further 20,000 will be available via a catalogue and internet ordering service.
"As the demand for complementary healthcare grows, we've joined forces with the world's experts to ensure customers can get everything they need at Tesco," said non-food director Richard Brasher.
Located at the front of the store, the Nutri Centre forms part of a healthy living zone' that includes Tesco ranges of Organic, Free From and Food Doctor products. "We have kept it as a separate store as it is not just about selling products but providing information and education," said the project manager for Nutri Centre@Tesco, Nooshin Abderabbani.
The store, staffed by qualified nutritionists, has a learning zone with a touchscreen information point, internet access, books to browse or buy, plus free phone advice.
Currently, nearly 200 Tesco stores stock 120 lines from the Nutri Centre@Tesco range. Plans for rolling out the concept will depend on the popularity of these products and the success of the Kensington store.
Tesco bought a controlling share in Nutri Centre in August 2001.
