Traditional Kentish cobnuts are making a comeback on retail shelves.
Their growing popularity was highlighted by Waitrose's sponsorship of the growers' association exhibition class held at the National Fruit Show.
The crop can be eaten from September when the shells are green, and when they turn brown, which develops their fuller flavour.
As well as the Kent Cob, at least six other varieties are grown.
While Kent is the major source of cobnuts, there are other UK producers across the country, though mainly small scale, said Kentish Cobnuts Association chairman John Cannon.
