The former director of the Channel tunnel, Robert Hardy, is to head a new 24-hour border control company in Kent.
Hardy has created Oakland Invicta with Dean Attwell, CEO and co-founder of supply chain specialist Oakland International.
He previously spent the past five years developing and running customs clearance at the Port of Dover.
The former P&O director said he felt it was time to offer the “market something different”.
“Border Force can’t check every vehicle,” said Hardy.
“The majority go unchecked. It takes us just 15 minutes to check the cargo and many clients are considering making it a mandatory process.”
The 24-hour border checkpoint will be offered on a commercial basis.
Oakland International said it was already attracting a “keen interest” from major brands.
“I am delighted to have joined Oakland, one of the warmest and most progressive companies I have come across,” added Hardy.
“I am confident that our partnership will bring the solution and the problem closer together so that our clients can expect import goods to arrive in the same condition they were despatched, without risk or exposure.”
