Australian beef producer Jack’s Creek has secured its first UK retail listing with Ocado Retail.
The Wagyu X range (rsp: from £17) will include four marbled grain-fed Wagyu products: Jack’s Creek Wagyu X Sirloin, Jack’s Creek Wagyu X Ribeye, Jack’s Creek Wagyu X Fillet and Jack’s Creek Wagyu X Rump.
The meat is a combination of two marbling breeds – Wagyu and Black Angus, which are raised in New South Wales.
The cattle are carefully bred to ensure a quality of taste, tenderness and juiciness, the supplier said.
“The UK has a sophisticated and increasingly diverse palate when it comes to steak, resulting in a growing demand for prestige cuts and premium cattle varieties that are known for their intricate marbling and superior eating quality,” said Kaine Allan, VP & head of sales at Jack’s Creek. “Our Wagyu X cattle graze the rich Australian grasslands for their entire lives and then for the final 400 days they feed on a specifically formulated diet of high-quality feed grains.
“This balanced feeding process enhances the marbling and rich flavour that wagyu beef is celebrated for, resulting in a truly exceptional product.”
This is the first Australian beef product in UK retail since the UK’s free trade agreement with Australia in May 2023, following which the Australian red meat sector outlined plans for a big push into the UK market with the launch of its Aussie Beef & Lamb brand.
Jack’s Creek has also won World’s Best Steak at the World Steak Challenge for the past two years in a row.
“We’ve seen a 120% surge in searches for ‘wagyu beef’ over the past year, clearly demonstrating this appetite for premium cuts,” said Tom Bryan, trading manager for meat, fish, poultry and eggs at Ocado. “We are thrilled to be the exclusive grocery retailer of the Jack’s Creek steak range.
“This brand represents exceptional quality and aligns perfectly with Ocado’s commitment to delivering great quality produce to our customers – we predict that the steaks will be very popular.”
