The race to offer the cheapest Beaujolais Nouveau this week was almost certainly won by Asda which was selling the new vintage at £2.98 a bottle.
This year's wines are similar in style to last year's according to Patriarche, which launched its Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2001 along with the rest on Thursday.
Its wine has been listed by the Co-operative Group where it will retail at £3.99. Patriarche is one of the largest family run negotiants in Burgundy.
