Greek and Mediterranean foods supplier Odysea has unveiled two new products, including a spread that combines Feta cheese with Greek yoghurt.
Promising a “smooth, tangy, deeply savoury spread” aimed at picnics and snacking occasions, Odysea said the new SKU uses PDO feta and real Greek yoghurt supplied by Athens-based Roussas Dairy, sourced from sheep and goat herds that graze on the Thessaly Mountains (rsp: £2.50/180g).
This NPD has been accompanied by a Feta Cubes SKU. Coming in a tub format, the cubes are aimed at shoppers seeking fuss-free, convenient toppings to salads, couscous or other lunchtime occasions (rsp: £2.50/150g).
Both products have gone on sale in Waitrose stores nationwide.
“Odysea’s sourcing and focus on building and maintaining relationships with producers around the Mediterranean ensures they have a reputation for supplying authentic, quality Greek and Mediterranean food. That is continued with the launch of these new products,” said a spokeswoman.
It comes as sales of Greek foods tumbled across the mults last year in line with the wider world foods category. Kantar data for The Grocer’s World Foods category report found there had been a 21.6% drop in volume sales and close to a £4m fall in value sales, taking the category to a value of £17.95m [52 w/e 6 Sept 2020].
