School caterer Olive Dining has partnered with Olio to share surplus meals with local people.

The partnership will see leftovers from schools in south east London distributed to communities via the Olio app.

As part of the new scheme, app users can request the surplus meals for free, and collect them from a convenient location with the help of Olio’s ‘food waste hero’ volunteers.

The rollout follows a successful trial in select schools earlier this year, which saw 171 meals redistributed among 59 local families.

Olive Dining plans to launch Olio into most of its south east London secondary schools by the end of this year.

“Our partnership with Olio will not only help to reduce the impact of food waste but also provide the communities we work with freshly prepared, healthy and nutritious meals,” said Olive Dining CEO and founder Stephanie Spratt.

“Olive Dining is passionate about our sustainability ethos and our partnership will work alongside our local sourcing of high-quality ingredients and packaging commitments.

“Giving back to the local community is an integral part of our values at Olive Dining and our partnership with Olio will bolster our ongoing work with food waste schemes and charities.”

Co-founder and CEO of Olio Tessa Clarke said: “We’re delighted to announce this new partnership with Olive Dining – and we know our community of users will be thrilled to be able to pick up freshly prepared, delicious school meals.

“Olive Dining is paving the way for smaller businesses to drastically reduce their food waste and subsequently improve their impact on our planet.”
