Organisers of The Milk Race have secured a clutch of Olympic gold medalists to attend the event, which returns this month after a 20-year absence.

London 2012 gold medalists Ed Clancy and Dani King will compete in the elite men’s and women’s races respectively. Sarah Storey – Britain’s most decorated female Paralympian – will present on the day.

The return of The Milk Race – revived by The Dairy Council – is a huge boost to the British cycling calendar, said Dani King. “The Nottingham circuit looks great so I can’t wait for the race in a few weeks’ time.”

Clancy (cycling for the Rapha Condor JLT team) will be up against his Team GB colleague Steven Burke (pictured, left) who will be part of the Node4 Giordana cycling team.

King will be part of Team Wiggle Honda alongside Elinor Barker – a world team pursuit champion.

Other big name participants include Former Paris-Roubaix champion and Tour de France stage winner Magnus Bäckstedt, competing for MG Maxifuel. Nottingham-based Team Raleigh will enter a five-man team which will include Graham Biggs, a former national circuit championships winner.

“It’s great to see so many top names signing up and the event in Nottingham on 26 May promises to be a hugely memorable occasion,” said Sandy Wilkie (pictured, right), chairman of The Dairy Council and the Milk Marketing Forum, which runs the Make Mine Milk generic marketing campaign. The campaign previously worked with sporting stars to promote milk consumption.

The race will take place in Nottingham City Centre on Sunday 26 May.

Last night, the Make Mine Milk campaign won the gong for Best Integrated Strategy at the Drum Marketing Awards. It was also highly commended for Best Social Media Strategy.
