Rod has supplied independent retailers, butchers, caterers and delicatessens with top birds from his Pheasant Oak Farm in the West Midlands since 1989. Employing five full-time and eight part-time staff, Rod aims to establish his business as the main supplier of cooked and smoked turkey in the UK within the next five years.
The judges were particularly impressed by Rod's achievement of expanding the business over the past three years to the point where it now contributes more than 20% of his farm's income.
Runner-up was Charles Dobney of Park Lane Flowers in the East Midlands who was commended for his business, which supplies flowers direct to major retailers.
