Plant-based frozen pizza brand One Planet Pizza has secured its first major grocery listing with Asda.
Four flavours – Mediterranean Veg, Three Cheeze Margherita, Spicy Peppernomi and Hawaiian – have launched online at the retailer and rolled into 70 stores (rsp: £3.75).
The listing forms part of Asda’s Nurture Programme, an incubator scheme recently launched by the retailer to support emerging brands.
It comes after the business, which was founded by father-and-son-team Mike and Joe Hill in 2016, this month hit its £200,000 crowdfunding target within seven days.
In February it launched on-pack carbon labelling, claiming it was the first frozen pizza brand to do so.
“It’s been amazing to secure Asda’s support with the scheme offering mentoring and support to help us to achieve a successful launch and we’ve been busy ramping up capacity at our base in Norfolk,” said Joe Hill.
Mike Hill added the listing was “exactly what we needed to continue to advance the business’ growth”.
Asda buying manager for emerging suppliers Emma Swan said: “We’re proud to support businesses such as One Planet Pizza through our Nurture programme and in turn be able to offer something new and different to our customers.”
The brand’s focus on reducing the environmental impact of its products on the environment was “impressive, and we’re pleased to be able to count them among our range of frozen meat-free and vegan products”, she added.
