Organic farm Daylesford aims to roll out its new Zero Waste Pantry concept to its four London stores, after hailing a successful launch at its flagship Gloucester farm shop last month.
Zero Waste Pantry, which was unveiled on 1 June, features 24 lines sold in packaging-free dispensers including rice, cider vinegar and cereals. The organic grower and retailer said sales of the products had jumped 25% in June compared to the same month last year.
The introduction of Zero Waste Pantry is part of a wider food and plastic waste drive. Daylesford said the products were cheaper than the equivalent item sold in packaging.
Basmati rice is now £6 per kg to buy loose. The packaged price was £6.98 per kg.
Cider vinegar is now £6 per litre as a refill and £7.58 per litre to buy in a bottle in store. Bran flakes are now £20 per kg - previously they were sold at £24 per kg in packaging.
Daylesford head of sustainability Tim Field said the new pantry concept would be introduced as refurbishments were undertaken in the Brompton Cross, Notting Hill, Marylebone and Pimlico stores.
“In line with our sustainability philosophy, the new Zero Waste Pantry in our farm shop makes it easy for our customers to shop for what they need, helps them to reduce food waste and replaces their reliance on packaging by using their own reusable containers,” said Field. “This new area of our farm shop makes it easy for our customers to make a difference and reduce our impact on our planet’s precious resources.”
