Lincolnshire-based mixed farmer Andrew Dennis has been named Producer of the Year in the Soil Association’s Organic Food Awards.
Dennis, who produces beef, turkeys, sheep and a range of organic vegetable and salads, impressed judges with how he had developed direct sales.
Once totally dependent on supermarkets, Woodlands Farm now generates 41% of its turnover by selling direct.
The Organic Trophy for lifetime achievement was won by Alan and Debra Schofield, who run the successful Growing With Nature box scheme business in Lancashire.
The Organic Food Awards are now in their 18th year. This year’s judges included TV chefs Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Giorgio Locatelli.
