Marks & Spencer plans to bring out an organic Port this month, and said it expected good sales for the category this Christmas.
The organic Reserve Port, costing £9.99, has been made from 100% organic grapes.
The launch follows an award for the best tasting Port priced less than £10 won by M&S’s own-label Finest Reserve Port (rsp: £5.99) at the Decanter World Wine Awards.
M&S’s Port expert Sue Daniels said: “For some people Port heralds the beginning of the festive season. We expect it to do really well this year.” Last year 46% of Port drinkers were female and 25% is now drunk by people under 35 [ACNielsen].
