PLB has added an Orvieto wine to its Italian Icons range, swelling the ranks to seven lines. Already listed by Thresher at £5.99, the Orvieto is made from grapes sourced from the hills in Italy's Classico zone and is a blend of traditional local varietals, including Trebbiano Toscana, Verdello, Drupeggi, Grechetto and Malvasia Toscana.
Brand manager Paul Shelton said the market for Italian white wines was growing quickly.
"Orvieto might not have the same status as Pinot Grigio quite yet in this country, but it does in Italy. We have added this new wine to the Italian Icons range in anticipation of a growing fan base in the UK," he said.
The original six-strong range, launched two years ago, was positioned as the wine of choice with Italian food. "We link each wine with well-known dishes on the back of the label," said Shelton. "So they're more directional than just 'red meat' or 'fish', as with many New World brands."
