Former HBOS chief executive Andy Hornby is set to earn more that £1m a year as Alliance Boots chief executive. It is just three months since Hornby left HBOS after the near-collapse of the bank.

The Findus Group, named Foodvest until recently, has appointed James Turton group director of sustainability and corporate affairs. Turton will drive the sustainability programme, including carbon reduction, packaging solutions, sustainable agriculture and responsible sourcing programme Fish For Life.

Jonathan Hill has been appointed category manager for premium organic dairy brand Rachel’s. Hill was formerly chilled yoghurts and desserts category manager at Onken.

Via Wines has appointed Mark Halliwell as business development manager for the UK and Ireland. Halliwell has more than eight years’ experience in the wine industry with leading Australian winery Brown Brothers Wines. He previously held positions at Filippo Berio and Twinings.

Sean Roberts has been appointed to the position of policy director at the Food Ethics Council. He has previously worked for the Crime and Social Justice Foundation, Amnesty International and the New Economics Foundatio.n

Finn Cottle has been made a consultant to the Organic Trade Board, the trade body of the organic industry. Cottle – previously of Sainsbury's, Somerfield and the Noble Foods Group – aims to help the board double organic sales within five years.

British Retail Consortium Trading, the commercial arm of the BRC that provides training and other services, is looking for a new CEO. After seven years in charge, current chief John Cormode will leave in September to begin a doctorate in organisational change at Sussex and Brighton Universities’ Centre of Innovation in Management.

Meat producer Vion has appointed Ton Vernaus to be its new chief financial officer and a member of the executive board. The position is based in the Netherlands. Vernaus will succeed Ton Lammers, who retires at the end of 2009.
