Own-label personal care and household products manufacturer McBride has named Richard Armitage its new finance director. He will join McBride from Premier Foods, where he is finance director for the grocery division.

Former Tesco high-flyer Scott Wheway, who left to become managing director of Boots in 2005, has been appointed chief executive of Best Buy Europe, a joint venture between Carphone Warehouse and US group Best Buy.

Malcolm Morrison is the Scottish Fishermen's Federation's new fisheries policy officer. He joins from Aberdeenshire Council, where he was fishing industry co-ordinator.

Jonathon Porritt has officially stepped down as chair of the Sustainable Development Commission after three terms. He has been replaced by Will Day, who joins from a background in international sustainable development.

Hervé Gomichon has joined the board of trustees of the Marine Stewardship Council. He is currently group quality director at Carrefour and replaces Margaret Wittenberg, global vice president of quality standards and public affairs for Whole Foods Market.

Howard Willard, executive vice president for strategy and business development at Altria, has been appointed a non-executive director at SABMiller.

Bpex has named Charlotte Evans veterinary projects manager and Charles Baines environment projects manager.

Bakehouse has named Greg Woodhead as NPD project manager. He moves across from his current position as food technologist in the company's technical team and will continue to be responsible for technical research.

Thomas Unger, chief finance officer for Metro Group, has been promoted to vice chairman of the retail giant's management board. Olaf Koch, managing director of operations at Permira, has replaced him.

Euan Emslie of Applied Remedies has been appointed development officer of the National Beef Association. He will work on membership recruitment, special technical events and raising the association's sponsorship income.
