Pork and bacon from outdoor pig production has been steadily increasing its share of the market over the years and now accounts for about 30% of production.
Now Marks & Spencer is introducing its Duroc pig range, due to launch in stores from 24 September.
The French breed has played a key role in improving the hardiness needed to thrive in outdoor systems across Britain, while also providing added succulence, tenderness and flavour.
M&S is sourcing the product from one of its select farms in Buckinghamshire. The collection ranges from a leg joint priced at £5.99 to pork medallions at £13.99.
It is also offering other beef, turkey and venison meat specials this month.
