More than 70 Pampers SKUs are now costlier than on 1 January

Inflation is tightening its grip in nappies, with Pampers shelf prices rising as much as 30% in the mults since the start of this year.

More than 70 SKUs by nappies’ leading brand are now costlier than on 1 January, Assosia data reveals.

In Tesco, for instance, Active Fit Size 4 60 Nappies Jumbo+ Pack and Baby Dry Size 4 Jumbo+ Pack 86 Nappies, for instance, both rose in price by 31.8%  – from £11 to £14.50 – on 31 January.

In Morrisons, meanwhile, New Baby Nappies Size 1 2kg-5kg Carry Pack 22 pack and New Baby Size 0 24-pack went up 12.5%, from £4 to £4.50, on 30 January.

And Baby-Dry Size 5 Nappies Essential Pack 39-pack have been 11.1% pricier in Asda since 26 January, rising from £9 to £10.

On 1 February, Baby-Dry Nappy Pants Stock Up Bundle Size 5 rose from £32 to £33 in the retailer. The product was subject to a further increase to £35 in the retailer on 3 February, representing a 9.4% increase overall.

Tesco did not dispute The Grocer’s findings, going on to stress it offered Clubcard holders an ‘any 2 for £21’ promotion on Pampers Jumbo nappy packs.

The retailer also pointed out its own label Fred & Flo Jumbo Pack of 72 nappies had a shelf price of £4.99.

Pampers owner P&G and Morrisons both declined to comment. The Grocer has approached Asda for comment.

The price hikes come less than six months after the cost of more than 90 Pampers SKUs surged. They were up as much as 60% across the traditional big four in the 12 weeks to 19 August 2022 [Assosia].

As a result, Pampers year-on-year prices are way up. According to The Grocer’s Key Value Items Tracker, Baby-Dry Size 4 Nappies 44-pack, for instance, has risen an average of 42.1% across Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons and Waitrose [Assosia 52 w/e 6 February 2023].
