Parfetts has teamed up with Just Eat to boost last-mile delivery coverage for its Go Local retail club members.
The partnership, which launched this week, has seen around 50 stores sign up so far. The wholesaler said it had received a stream of enquiries from other retailers and expected to see a rapid increase in signups.
Parfetts already has an agreement in place with delivery service Snappy Shopper. However, the platform does not provide delivery drivers, which prevents some retailers from tapping into the lucrative home delivery market.
The wholesaler said it was keen to work with Just Eat because its large driver network and global profile would help retailers to contend with competitors in the rapid delivery space such as Gopuff and Getir, which operate using dark stores.
Depending on the trading model of the individual store, Go Local retailers will now be able to choose between using Snappy, Just Eat or a combination of the two to fulfil deliveries.
“What we’ve tried to do is look at the best options for our retailers to engage the shopper that isn’t currently shopping with them… and we’ve now given them the best of both worlds,” said Parfetts head of retail Steve Moore.
“There’s nothing in it for us. There isn’t any commission. This is purely done from the standpoint of what’s right for the retailer. We’re trying to help our retailers thrive and make more money.
“Once we can start to prove the uplift in sales, more retailers will be interested. In stores the average spend is £10 whereas delivery is £30. Consumers are prepared to pay more for delivery, but they’ll also spend more money when they do it. So, from a retail perspective it makes a lot of sense.”
