Workers at Park Cakes have accepted a revised pay deal, ending a dispute over the implementation of the Agency Workers Directive.

Park Cakes had introduced new contracts at lower pay for new workers, claiming it could not afford to offer the former pay and conditions after the Agency Workers Directive came into force in October, requiring companies to give agency workers the same pay and conditions as full-time staff following 12 weeks of continuous work.

Under threat of strike action, the company revised the offer, promising to give workers who stay on the new contracts for two years the same pay and conditions as existing workers. It also pledged that established full-time staff would suffer no erosion of terms and conditions.

Workers at Park Cakes in Oldham and Bolton accepted the new offer in a ballot last week.
