KPMG has appointed business transformation guru Paul Martin as its UK head of retail.

Martin currently heads up KPMG’s business transformation division, Boxwood, and will assume his new role on 1 October.

Notching up roles including managing director of analyst firm Planet Retail, Martin has spent 20 years working in the retail sector and is “well-known to many of the industry’s leading players”, according to KPMG.

Martin will take over from David McCorquodale, who has led KPMG’s UK retail division for nearly four years, and is retiring following 32 years with the firm.

Under McCorquodale’s leadership, the division has hired experts directly from Tesco, Amazon and Mothercare, and acquired new businesses Boxwood and Nunwood.

Martin said he was “delighted” to take over from McCorquodale. “Under his leadership, KPMG has demonstrated how important the retail sector in the UK is for our firm and has invested accordingly,” he said. “I am looking forward to continuing to build our capabilities and working together with our exceptional client base and outstanding colleagues.”

Liz Claydon, head of KPMG’s consumer goods and retail business, said: “I look forward to working with Paul, who brings international connections, innovative thinking and significant operational skills to the fore at a time when the retail sector continues to undergo significant structural change.”
