A variety of English rhubarb has gained the same international status as champagne and Parma ham.
Yorkshire forced rhubarb has been given Protected Designation of Origin status by the European Union, meaning only companies growing the vegetable in the so-called ‘rhubarb triangle’ between Bradford, Wakefield and Leeds can use the name.
The rhubarb is grown in the dark and tended by candlelight using traditional methods to produce a particularly sweet and tender variety.
