Seaweed specialist The Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company is expanding its range with The Mermaid’s Larder, a seaweed seasoning collection the brand described as a “culinary adventure down the seashore”.
The Mermaid’s Larder pack (rsp: £13-£14) includes five glass tubes in a presentation box, containing dried wrack, gutweed, laver, dulse and kelp.
“This gift pack shows you a selection of the tastiest seaweeds in order of the depth in the sea at which they grow,” said sales and marketing officer Fran Barnikel. Gutweed and laver can be sprinkled on to salads to give a delicate flavour, she added, while dulse was “mindblowing when sautéed with potatoes”, and kelp could be used to give a umami flavour to noodles
The company has also secured listings with Marks & Spencer for two more in its range. Captain Cat’s Môr seasoning (rsp: £3.50/70g), a spice blend with laver and dulse seaweeds, goes into 88 stores in October, while Captain Cat’s Ship Biscuits (rsp: £2.99/62g), which are flavoured with the seasoning, go into 279. The retailer also stocks the brand’s original Ship’s Biscuits.
