Peperami has unveiled its fourth meat-snacking innovation of 2019: a two-strong range of jerky.
Called Peperami Tender Jerky, it comes in two flavours, Original and Hot (rsp: £2.75/70g), made from beef and pork that have been cured, dried and beechwood-smoked. They are chilled snacks, with each 100g providing 322 calories and 39g of protein.
Listed by Tesco and Asda, the jerky’s launch will be supported by a seven-figure integrated campaign including TV, OOH, sampling and social media.
It comes with “the meat snacking industry is now at an all-time high, growing over 9% in the last two years” according to Peperami.
The Jack Links brand’s marketing manager, Pavan Chandra, added: “As the category is experiencing considerable growth currently, our new ready-to-eat jerky provides a great opportunity for retailers to drive sales within their current meat snacks portfolio whilst also providing shoppers with a convenient post-workout or afternoon protein snack.”
Peperami Tender Jerky follows the introduction earlier this year of Peperami & Cheese Snack Box, Pep’d Up Chicken Bites and Peperami Pastry Rolls – all aimed at revitalising the brand’s sales in grocery. It added just 0.5% to its value in 2018, becoming worth £63.1m as volumes fell by 3.2% [Nielsen 52 w/e 29 December 2018].
