Flavoured water brand Perfectly Clear has been awarded the Sugarwise kitemark in recognition of its low sugar content.
The brand is the first flavoured water range to be certified by the scheme, and follows soft drink brand Zeo, which was certified in July.
Perfectly Clear, which is manufactured by Clearly Drinks, will carry the kitemark from 2017 to help consumers identify the brand as a sugar-free soft drink.
“Sugarwise and Clearly Drinks are working to the same purpose - increasing the availability of quality zero-sugar products and making sure they’re easy to identify,” said Maurice Newton, commercial director at Clearly Drinks.
“With sugar-related health issues such as obesity and Type 2 diabetes prevalent, organisations like Sugarwise are vital in raising awareness of the need for increased sugar-free food and drink options. In the last year we sold tens of millions more bottles of Perfectly Clear than in 2015, as consumers become increasingly conscious of their sugar consumption.”
Vinicius Ferreira, chief scientist at Sugarwise, said: “After testing Perfectly Clear’s free sugar levels, we can confirm it has earned its place in a Sugarwise diet. Ultimately, we hope that other soft drinks will follow the example that Clearly Drinks is setting, increasing the number of healthy drink choices for consumers.”
