Pernod Ricard has unveiled the first in a series of limited edition gins from its Plymouth Gin brand.
Mr King’s 1842 Recipe is based on a 170-year-old recipe. A limited batch of 2,000 craft gin cases has rolled out into The Whisky Exchange (rsp: £41.95/70cl).
Crafted by master distiller Sean Harrison using an original recipe from 1842 and only two ingredients – orris root and hand-picked juniper – the new gin is billed as an “entirely unique blend and flavour profile”.
It was a “truly one-off craft gin that we will never be able to recreate again,” he said.
“Even if we were to visit the same Italian hillside next year, the climate and harvest conditions would affect the juniper resulting in a different taste profile. At a time when other brands are using many different botanicals throughout the distillation process, Mr King’s 1842 Recipe focuses on just two and the result is something very special.”
The brand enlisted London-based design agency B&B Studio to give the Plymouth bottle a makeover to “appeal to new audiences” with a “cleaner, more contemporary” look and feel, it said.
The traditional Plymouth blue and horseshoe shape of the main label has been retained, but now encircles an original illustration of single-harvest juniper berries.
