The year's first British cucumbers hit supermarket shelves this week. Up to 700,000 cucumbers a week will be harvested at Thanet Earth in Kent once the season is in full swing, having been grown in giant glasshouses. Owner Fresca Group, which also grows tomatoes and peppers on the site, has long-term plans to add another four glasshouses to the current three and further reduce imports.
