Pip & Nut is moving its entire range into glass jars in a bid to crack down on plastic.
The range, which was previously packed in 30% rPET jars, would offer “improved recyclability” in the UK, said the brand, and would support “a wider agenda set by supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury’s, who have all made commitments to reduce plastic packaging in store”.
Its new jars are made from minimum 50% recycled glass and have fully recyclable labels, lollipops and lids. They are also embossed “to encourage customers to use them time and time again”, said Pip & Nut.
The switch to glass “has been over two years in the making”, said the brand’s founder Pip Murray.
“We always listen to what our consumers want, and they clearly asked for us to move to glass.”
The new jars will roll out online from 5 July and in retail from 21 July (rsp: £3/300g).
It isn’t the only brand cracking down on plastic this week: Rowse Honey announced yesterday plans to ditch black plastic lids across its range, swapping them for new recyclable gold ones – a move it claims will remove 100 tonnes of black plastic from its supply chain per year.
Rowse also plans to ramp up the amount of recycled plastic used in its bottles, and has set a target of 30% across its range of honey SKUs this year.
