Pizza Express has unveiled a retail version of its lower-calorie Leggera range of pizza.
Arriving in Waitrose from today (22 May), the three-strong lineup is made with a multigrain base. Chicken & vegetable, prawn & broccoli, and squash, kale & goats cheese variants each contain around 400kcal and are aimed at lighter meal occasions (rsp: £4.25/205g).
The Leggera range was “very popular” with Pizza Express restaurant customers, selling 2.4 million a year, according to the brand’s commercial director Matt Ward. “Naturally, we want to offer the best of our menu in retail too,” he added.
The NPD will be joined on shelf in Waitrose on Wednesday (24 May) by the Pizza Express gluten-free margherita pizza. Launched last year, it has also extended its listings to Tesco (from 12 June). Rsp is £4.50 (275g).
Both lines follow the introduction of the Zapparoli pizza – Pizza Express’ first seasonal product for grocery. Launched last week for a limited time, it features a topping of chicken, ‘nduja sausage and smoky creamed corn (rsp: £5.25/345g).
“The principal mission of our retail offering has always been to ensure that our customers receive the best of the restaurant experience at home,” said Ward.
