Entirely plant-based recipe kit brand Grubby is seeking £3m in a crowdfunding round as it eyes international expansion.
Grubby launched two-and-a-half years ago and has since amassed 35,000 customers and delivered 500,000 plant-based meals.
The startup said it had achieved 19% month-on-month revenue growth this year, “proving that being a plant-based brand is far from niche”. Year-on-year revenues have grown by 400%, and the company has grossed £1.7m revenue in the past six months.
The cash injection would be used to expand Grubby’s product offering and improve its technology, the company said. Grubby was “also eyeing up international expansion in the next few years as the trend towards plant-based surges globally” it added.
Research last month by Proveg International found 9% of UK consumers are vegan or vegetarian, the highest share in Europe after Germany. Nearly a quarter of Brits identify as flexitarian, with the UK achieving the highest sales value for plant-based meat.
According to Grubby, 78% of its customers are not vegan.
“We’re changing preconceptions of plant-based cooking by making it simple and delicious,” said Grubby founder Martin Holden-White.
“The economic outlook means people are eating out less and cooking at home more often, and we’re in the middle of three high-growth sectors: meal kits, online food deliveries and meat-free. This has led us to grow faster now than ever as the inevitable trend towards plant-based continues,” he added.
