Food Service, the Polish company which is being sued by ABP Food Group for allegedly supplying it with beef containing equine DNA, has refuted the allegations.
ABP’s legal action follows the horsemeat scandal earlier this year, which erupted after an investigation by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland revealed the presence of horse DNA in meat products supplied by ABP.
Yesterday, ABP Food Group issued a statement that said: “ABP has today commenced High Court proceedings for breach of contract against Polish supplier, Food Service, relating to their supply of beef containing equine DNA to Silvercrest Foods.”
In a statement issued to The Grocer this afternoon, Food Service Sp. Z o.o. co-founder Marek Czerniej said the company completely refuted the accusations levelled against it by ABP.
Food Service Sp. Z o.o. did not slaughter, butcher, process or store – in any form – “equine meat/by-products in any form whatsoever in any of our premises”, he said.
“Once our innocence has been established beyond all reasonable doubt, we will seek punitive damages to our good name, reputation and consequential losses.”
ABP said it had no further comment on the case.
